I recently returned from an extended backpacking trip using various guides and other resources to help me along the way. Experience is the best teacher, but there were many things, had I known, that would have saved me a fair amount of stress, confusion, and misunderstanding. I can’t count the number of times I arrived at a recommended guest house only to have it either not exist or have fallen into disrepair, or visited recommended sites just to find them underwhelming. I quickly realized that the best resource by far was my fellow travellers, providing accurate, up-to date, unbiased reviews of where to go and what to see. One of my favourite experiences of the past trip, the Gibbon Experience, I decided to do solely because of one travellers constant enthusiastic recounting.
I don’t claim to be a travel expert, or know all the best places to go, I just want to provide the information I wish I had prior to travelling. All of the pictures featured on this site are from our personal collections including the page header images. We want to let people know that there’s more to do in this world than what you find in your lonely planet guidebook.

I’ve been traveling for a few years now and I am sometimes asked how it is that I am able to do it. The truth is, traveling is cheaper and easier then you think! I have wanted to create this website for awhile now so that I could share and pass on the things I have learned to other people thinking of visiting other countries, whether for holidaying, backpacking or anything in between.
So far I have spent most of my time in Europe, however my next big trip will be to South America.
I am currently living in Thailand learning Muay Thai. When I’m not training I’m usually riding around the island on a motorbike or going to to the beach.
I hope you find Stray Earth useful. You can view my posts here.
